About

My name is Daniel Jurgens and I am a recovering Architect*. I was born and lived in New Zealand until January 2009* when I accepted a new career opportunity and relocated to Melbourne, Australia.

I started my tertiary education in 1996 studying architecture* building science and visualisation techniques at Victoria University of Wellington. Whilst studying at Victoria University my independent architecture work was awarded several Master Building awards.

Since graduating I worked with Autodesk implementing new drawing and visualisation systems* training a variety of New Zealand Architecture firms, until I joined Archaus in 2005 as the Graphics Manager. At Archaus I produced or directed all the 3D graphics produced in house whilst working intensively with the team of architects, designers and draftsmen.

Over the years I have tested and developed techniques to produce photo realistic renders and animations as quickly and efficiently as possible tightly integrating design teams using Revit with the production of visualisations using 3ds Max.

In 2008 in addition to working full time at Archaus I taught Revit, 3dsMAX/mentalray/V-Ray, Ecotect, and Unreal tournament (for displaying architecture projects) at Victoria University.

My work has been published extensively including the Autodesk Design Visualisation Super Users tour and I was selected to present my visualisation techniques at Autodesk University in Las Vegas in December 2008.

In January 2009 I relocated to Melbourne, Australia to begin my new career as the Team leader of 3D visualisation at Bates Smart, until I was offered and accepted a new job role within Bates Smart as the Melbourne BIM Manager and begun implementing Revit Architecture.

It is exciting times in my area of expertise at the moment with technology and techniques constantly changing and improving, I am passionate about digital design technologies and will be updating this blog regularly.
