Revit 2010 Shadows: Elevation vs 3D ‘Elevation vs Render

Soo what is going on here then? I have been testing a number of techniques on representing different wall/material treatments and have found Revit to be quite quirky.
I setup a simple stacked wall comprising of four parts:
The bottom a Brick veneer,
Then the standard install frosted glass material with the shading paramater set to 10% transparent,
Then a standard piece of clear glass with the shading paramater set to 70% transparent
And finally the top portion a solid generic white material.
In front of this wall are four rectangular segments of wall, the first one (left -> right):
Is a basic wall with a generic solid white material applied, no transparency
Then a basic wall with a generic solid white material with the shading paramater set to 10% transparent
Then a basic curtain wall with the same standard piece of clear glass with the shading paramater set to 70% transparent
And finally a standard install frosted glass material with the shading paramater set to 10% transparent
So the images below then (Left-Right), NOTE: all views are using the same shadow settings, and have the view set to shading with edges!
3D view showing the layout of the wall with shadows turned on
North Elevation with the shadows turned on.
3D view showing the North Elevation with the shadows turned on.
Rendered 3D view showing the North Elevation with the shadows turned on.
The North Elevation shows that all the glass materials regardless of transparency cast and recieve a solid shadow.
The 3D view showing the North Elevation shows that no material with ANY transparency will cast or recieve shadows?
The Rendered 3D view showing the North Elevation shows various levels of shadow been cast and received according to the transparency.
